Jeffrey Tapia, age 28, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Jensey Hernandez on Wednesday, June 29, the office reports.
Investigators determined Tapia shot Jensey, along with his brother Javier, during an altercation outside of a house party at 234 Bailey Street in Lawrence on July 30, 2017, the office reports.
Jensey was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead while Javier has lost complete use of his right arm, the office reports.
“This was a senseless killing that a robbed a family of a beloved son, grandson and brother and has left two children fatherless,” Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said. “Nothing we do can restore what the Hernandez family has lost, but I hope with this verdict and sentence, they are able to find some peace.”
In addition to his life sentence, Tapia was slapped with concurrent sentences of 15 to 20 years for armed assault with intent to murder for and 4-5 years for unlawful possession of a firearm.
